I-BEST for ELL learners
Success in the hospitality and tourism industry is not predicated on language abilities; rather, hard work, a passion for people, cross-cultural communication, being multi-lingual, and having an understanding of the industries within hospitality and tourism are needed. Therefore, HOST offers nearly all of our coursework in an I-BEST format.
I-BEST coursework accepts that students need communication skills to succeed. All I-BEST is completed in collaboration between HOST and a department at Highline College called ELCAP (English Language, Career, and Academic Prep). I-BEST courses are geared toward English Language Learners (ELL) and teach English reading, writing, speaking, and culture-based communication.
There are many options for students seeking I-BEST classes. Any certificate in the department is available entirely in an I-BEST format. In fact, I-BEST students can complete 4 of the 6 quarters needed to earn an AAS Degree entirely in I-BEST! This ensures that when you depart I-BEST coursework your English and general communication skills are as ready as you are for the next step in your career.
